The rights to Epic Game’s franchise Gears of War was officially acquired by Microsoft. All rights to past and future games in the series are now wholly owned my Microsoft and will be handled by their internal developer Black Tusk Sudios up in Vancouver. While a new studio is now in charge, a familiar face to the series returns alongside this acquisition, as Rod Fergusson, former Director of Production on the franchise, is returning to Microsoft in a “key studio leadership role” at Black Tusk.
Epic’s CEO Tim Sweeny says that they still have plans to support the Xbox One and is licencing its new Unreal Engine 4 out to Microsoft. They will also be moving their focus onto new projects.
