Late last week gameplay footage for the upcoming Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor was released, and, well promising, its Rival System was overshadowed by a distinct feeling of the familiar, with the game strongly evoking Assassin’s Creed. That feeling was felt very strongly by former Ubisoft developer Charles Randall, who tweeted jokingly “Check it out guys! I apparently made a Middle Earth game!” and then follwed up with “Seriously, can someone tell me how Assassin’s Creed 2 code and assets are in this Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor game?”
He didn’t have bad things to say about the game, and instead was excited about the project. He also proposed that Assassin’s Creed could have been simply a large influence on the game, or more interestingly, that Ubisoft may have made a licencing deal for Assassin’s Creed’s Anvil engine, allowing other developers to work with it.
